Installation Notes ---------------------- You have successfully installed this fine model into your MSTS game. The loco files are located in a folder named "AU_nswgrD59_coal". In the MSTS Activity Editor you will find locos and tenders, etc as AU NSW 5902 and AU NSW 5902 tender, respectively AU NSW 5908 and AU NSW 5908 tender, respectively AU NSW 5916 and AU NSW 5916 tender, respectively To design consists of your own, use the Consist Editor. Prototype Notes -------------------- After WWII a severe shortage of engine meant that the NSWGR neede to source locomotives in a hurry. Twenty of the proven light "Mikado" design that had been used extensively throughout the world during WWII. The units were ordered from the Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton Corporation and delivered during 1952/53. They were the first 2-8-2 tender locomotives used in NSW and were delivered as oil burning locomotives. As oil-burners they saw most of their operation on the Main North and North Coast lines. In 1961, due to the high cost of oil compared to coal, a program was commenced to convert a number of the class to coal burning units. In all seventeen of the class were ultimately converted to coal operation. Withdrawals of the locomotives commenced in 1970 with the last one (5910) being withdrawn on 11 December, 1972. ============================================ 3.
