Model Details 2. Installation Notes 3. Historical Notes 4. Copyright, Distribution, Terms of Use =========================================== 1. Model Details Original 3D models of NSW BKF Motor Car Wagons - by Brian Bere-Streeter This new wagon came about, because of a need to create authentic train formations for use on the Microsoft Train Simulator route - 'Coals to Newcastle' - by Peter Newell. Three models, are included - one empty, and two with different coloured loads. Having spent some considerable time repainting others models, this is another venture into building new rolling stock from scratch. They may not be the most detailed or totally accurate, but in the absence of other better models, I hope you enjoy running them on your NSW routes in MSTS ? at least it gives a bit more variety and authenticity to your passenger and goods train workings. These models are for your personal use only, and may not be sold or distributed in any way without the original creator's permissions. =========================================== 2. Installation Notes You might have an existing folder (from using Version 1.0), or create a new folder called << AU_nswBKF>> Double click on the self installing EXE file and follow the instructions. The models will be automatically installed into a folder called << AU_nswBKF>> You will need to create either a new consist to use these vans, or add them to an existing consist. Consists are made, or edited, using MSTS Activity Editor or Carlos Gomes?s ConBuilder. Note: You will need to install the sounds for Coals to Newcastle Freight Wagons as the wag files are set to look for them. =========================================== 3. Historical Notes The fifteen (15) double-deck BKF motor car wagons were built in 1957-58 by Clyde Workshops on the underframes of condemned wooden-boded passenger cars. These wagons were used solely as goods wagons, to transport new motor vehicles to various parts of the state - they were not used as "Motorail" car carriers attached to long distance passenger trains. Dependant on the size of the vehicles carried, each wagon could carry between 4 to 8 vehicles. When built they were open-sided, and had diagonal bracing on the side stanchions supporting the upper decks - after 1963 the lower sides were enclosed with corrugated cladding. Diagonally opposed drop-down steel loading flaps were provided to enable direct loading from special two-deck track end-loading ramps, and the vehicles were driven directly along the full length of the train to their travelling positions as necessary. Prototype information for these models has been researched from the following sources: " Coaching Stock of the NSW Railways - Volume 2 ", Cooke, Estell, Seckold and Beckhaus, Eveleigh Press, 1999 and 2003 " Day of the Goods Train" , Preston, Eveleigh Press, 2002 " Railway Freight Wagons of New South Wales ", Beckhaus, SCR Publications, 1970 =========================================== 4.
