Model Details Original 3D models of NSW Engineers Train - by Brian Bere-Streeter These new wagons came about, because of a need to create authentic train formations for use on the Microsoft Train Simulator route - 'Coals to Newcastle' - by Peter Newell. New models were created for: NSWGR BE – Bogie rail wagon - empty NSWGR BE – Bogie rail wagon - front NSWGR BE – Bogie rail wagon - centre NSWGR BE – Bogie rail wagon - rear NSWGR BE – Bogie water gin (Locomotive and Civil Engineers use) Having spent some considerable time repainting others models, this is another venture into building new rolling stock from scratch. They may not be the most detailed or totally accurate, but in the absence of other better models, I hope you enjoy running them on your NSW routes in MSTS – at least it gives a bit more variety and authenticity to your train workings. These models are for your personal use only, and may not be sold or distributed in any way without the original creator's permissions. =========================================== 2. Installation Notes Double click on the self installing EXE file and follow the instructions. The models will be automatically installed into a folder called << AU_nswBogieEngineersWagons >> Note you will need to have the CTN Freight Bogie Sounds installed as this rolling stock has been set up to use them. Sample consists for a typical loaded Welded Rail Train and an empty Welded Rail Train are included - copy the file ending in xxxx.CON into the Consists folder under the TRAINS folder. . Welded Rail trains were made up of 9 type BE 40ft bogie bolster wagons modified for Civil Engineers use. The trains were a total of 360ft long (plus the buffers and couplings), but the lengths of continuously welded rail were only 330ft long. This was done to ensure an adequate safety margin at the ends of the wagon set, if the rails shifted longitudinally in transit. The lengths of continuously welded rail were made in the Chullora Workshops, so all welded rail trains originated from Chullora, the rail wagons set was stored at Chullora when not in use. Transport of lengths of rail to the work site, was often done by coupling the Welded rail set into normal scheduled goods trains passing through the area – they were then shunted into a convenient siding for use by the civil engineers when they took possession of the line for maintenance work. The MSTS models have been especially made to simulate a set of rail wagons with continuously welded rails – it is done by carefully overlapping the rails on each individual wagon so that they coincide over the centre of the couplers – when running around curves in MSTS routes, the rails ‘bend’ with a reasonable appearance of being a long length of continuously welded rail. For this to work properly, the Consist must be made up as 1-Front wagon, 7-Centre wagons, and 1-Rear wagon. The supplied Consists also include one of my LHG brake vans – this brake van has a ‘guards’ view – by pressing the ‘5’ key, the viewpoint will shift as though you are the guard looking forward along the train – this is particularly effective when running along continuously curved track. Additionally, a Bogie water gin is provided – these were used either as supplementary water tenders for locomotives (being placed between the locomotive’s tender and the train), or could be used for general water supply purposes by the Civil Engineers when performing works along the ‘right of way’. When used by the Civil Engineers department, bogie water gins were always coupled directly behind the locomotive. Please note - the Consists as supplied use the C32 Class 4-6-0 engines by Gavin Woolf - use the Activity Editor to substitute any appropriate NSWGR locomotive to suit. You will need to create either a new consist to use these wagons, or add them to an existing consist. Consists are made, or edited, using MSTS Activity Editor or Carlos Gomes’s ConBuilder. =========================================== 3. Historical Notes Prototype information for these models has been researched from the following sources: " Day of the Goods Train" , Preston, Eveleigh Press, 2002 “Railway Freight Wagons of New South Wales”, Beckhaus, SCR Publications, 1970 =========================================== 4.
