Model Details Original 3D models of NSW Overhead Wiring Train wagons - by Brian Bere-Streeter This new wagons came about, because of a need to create authentic train formations for use on the Microsoft Train Simulator route - 'Coals to Newcastle' - by Peter Newell. Having spent some considerable time repainting others models, this is another venture into building new rolling stock from scratch. I am not yet skilled enough to build transparent windows and interiors, but many of the other NSW coaches and wagons do not either. They may not be the most detailed or totally accurate, but in the absence of other better models, I hope you enjoy running them on your NSW routes in MSTS – at least it gives a bit more variety and authenticity to your passenger and goods train workings. These models are for your personal use only, and may not be sold or distributed in any way without the original creator's permissions. =========================================== 2. Installation Notes Create a new folder called << AU_nsw-OHW-Train >> Double click on the self installing EXE file and follow the instructions. The models will be automatically installed into a folder called << AU_nsw-OHW-Train >> You will need to create either a new consist to use these vans, or add them to an existing consist. Consists are made, or edited, using MSTS Activity Editor or Carlos Gomes’s ConBuilder. A sample Consist using one of Paul Gausden’s D50 2-8-0 goods locomotives is included to get you started. =========================================== 3. Historical Notes Prototype information for these models has been researched from the following sources: Photographs showing these types of Overhead Wiring Vans and Cable wagons were found in several copies of ‘Byways of Steam’ and also in ‘First Stop Central’. These wagons have been built solely from photographs, no drawings have been found. Therefore the wagons may be considered to be ‘hypothetical’ – the prototype photographs suggest the vans were built as plain flat sided plywood bodied vans on old 46ft Express or Express Lavatory passenger car underframes, and so the MSTS models have been built on the same chassis as my other Express Lavatory coaches. I have seen one other photograph (source unknown), which shows a different type of OHW van showing conversions of existing Express or Express Lavatory stock with the original body retained mostly intact, but with most doors and windows removed and/or plated over – however, these type of vans have not been modelled in MSTS. =========================================== 4.
