Model Details Original 3D model of SMR 10 Class locomotives - by Brian Bere-Streeter These new locos came about, because of a need to create authentic train formations for use on the Microsoft Train Simulator route - 'Coals to Newcastle' - by Peter Newell. Having spent some considerable time repainting others models and making new passenger and goods rolling stock, this is my first venture into building new STEAM locomotives from scratch. They may not be the most detailed or totally accurate, but in the absence of other better models, I hope you enjoy running them on your SMR routes in MSTS – at least it gives a bit more variety and authenticity to your train workings. To allow the creation of authentic train formations the following locos were added: - 10 – black livery - red footplate edge and SMR lettering - 17 – black livery - SMR lettering – NO red footplate edge - 23 – royal blue livery – light blue lining – SMR lettering These models typically represent the locos in the 50’s and 60’s condition – they do not have the later additions of automatic knuckle couplers or the prominent front inverted U-shape handrails. These models are for your personal use only, and may not be sold or distributed in any way without the original creator's permissions. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT’S NEW IN VERSION 2.0 Extensive revisions and improvements to texture files. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prototype Notes: The first of the 10 class 2-8-2T locomotives was originally built for the East Greta Railway by Beyer Peacock and Company. Prior to this all previous EGR locos were built by Avonside. The SMR 10 class design was very closely based on the NSWGR ‘T’ class 2-8-0 goods locomotives. Over a number of years, a total of 14 of this class were built, and so they became the ‘standard’ class on the SMR. Luckily all 14 locos have been preserved at different locations. 10 – Built 1912 – now at Hunter Valley Training Company (dismantled for restoration) 17 – Built 1914 – now at Hunter Valley Railway Trust (under restoration) 18 – Built 1915 – now at Hunter Valley Training Company – operational - leased to 3801 Ltd 19 – Built 1915 – now in storage at Kooragang Island coal loader 1918 – The East Greta Railway amalgamated with several minor railways to become the South Maitland Railways Pty Ltd 20 – Built 1920 – now at Hunter Valley Railway Trust (in storage) 22 – Built 1921 – now at Richmond Vale Railway on display 23 – Built 1921 – now at Hunter Valley Railway Trust - operational 24 – Built 1922 - now at Richmond Vale Railway on display 25 – Built 1923 - now at Richmond Vale Railway on display 26 – Built 1923 – now at Hunter Valley Railway Trust (in storage) 27 – Built 1923 – now at Hunter Valley Railway Trust (under restoration) 28 – Built 1923 – now at Hunter Valley Railway Trust (in storage) 30 – Built 1926 – now at Richmond Vale Railway - operational 31 – Built 1926 – now at Hunter Valley Railway Trust (in storage) Prototype Information: South Maitland Railways, Attenborough, 2001, Eveleigh Press Railways of the South Maitland Coalfields, Eardley, 1969, ARHS The Railways of J&A Brown, Eardley, 1972, ARHS The Richmond Vale Railway, Preston, 1989, NSWRTM See also - http://www.australiansteam.com/nswindframe.htm =========================================== 2. Installation Notes Double click on the self installing EXE file and follow the instructions. The models will be automatically installed into a folder called <<< AU_nsw-SMR-10-Class >>> YOU WILL NEED TO ALSO INSTALL the following Cabview and Sound sets:- CABVIEW – cabview is aliased to Joseph Spinella’s excellent C30 class tank engine cab SOUND – sound is aliased to Paul Gausden’s excellent D50 engine sounds. CREW - the loco crew is provided by Paul Gausden These Cabviews and Soundsets MUST BE installed in the MSTS master Trainsets folder, and the new SMR 10 Class locomotives will automatically link into them. You will need to create either a new consist to use these locomotives, or add them to an existing consist. Consists are made, or edited, using MSTS Activity Editor or Carlos Gomes’s ConBuilder. Consists have been included for each locomotive only as a Light Engine, just to get you started. Visit http://www.railpage.org.au/steam4me/trainsim for a tutorial in creating a consist. =========================================== 3.
